STAGES, now celebrating its 38th year of producing Broadway-quality theatre, employs a full-time staff of twenty-five and a seasonal company from May to October, presenting 140 performances to over 50,000 patrons.

STAGES employs the best Musical Theatre artists available regionally and nationally for all productions. By holding auditions in St. Louis and New York, STAGES is able to attract not only Broadway talent, but also further its commitment to support professional St. Louis actors. In addition, STAGES educates thousands of students each year at its Performing Arts Academy, the region’s only year-round arts school with a comprehensive curriculum run by a professional theatre company.

Academy

Teaching Artists (VOICE, DANCE & MUSIC DIRECTING)
TEACHING ARTISTS 

At STAGES Performing Arts Academy, we are dedicated to cultivating creativity in a safe and engaging environment. We continually search for energetic arts educators to join our inspiring team of teaching artists. SPAA offers evening and weekend classes, full-scale productions, community outreach programming, and summer camps for students grades K-12; all of which need teaching artists to make it possible! 

Currently, we are searching for educators for both our on-site classes and community outreach programs for the 2024-2025 school year. These educators should confidently manage a classroom, as well as promote growth within students through these specific areas of focus:

  • Vocal Instruction
  • Dance Instruction
  • Music Direction

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create weekly lesson plans, activities, and/or rehearsal schedules.
  • Teach weekly sessions ranging in 1.5-3 hours in length.
  • Prepare students for a 15-minute, high-quality showcase performance (on-site & outreach) or fully-produced musical/play (outreach only) to take place at the end of each session. 
  • Communicate consistently with students and parents regarding important class or production information.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in teaching the performing arts (acting, voice, and/or dancing) and passion for arts education
  • Ability to play piano (applies to music directors only; must be able to play both accompaniment and vocal parts)
  • Attention to detail and commitment to excellence
  • Excellent relationship-building, management, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm, collected, and patient under pressure
  • Understanding of classroom management
  • Evening and weekend (Saturdays only) availability

Compensation:

  • $35-$45/hr based on experience ; paid as a bi-weekly stipend

The STAGES St. Louis Spotlight on Careers Internship + Apprenticeship Programs is designed to train the next generation of theatre professionals in the skills necessary to become successful and integral parts of the theatre community. We combine practical hands-on experience with the opportunity to work with and learn from seasoned theatre professionals. While immersed in the professional world, our interns gain in-depth knowledge and experience in their chosen areas to become well-rounded theatre practitioners.

Production Management Internship

STAGES St. Louis, a professional musical theatre company entering our 39th season, is seeking Production Staff to join our 2025 Season. The Season consists of three large-scale musicals: Murder for Two, the pre-Broadway production of Austen’s Pride, and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and runs from May through October. Stages St. Louis is looking for a Production Management Intern for our 2025 season. Although start and end dates are flexible, we hope to find personnel that can fulfill the largest contract possible. The Production Management Intern works with the Production Manager and other supervisors to support all members of the Production Staff.

Dates: 3/17/25-9/26/25

Starting at: $14/hour

    3. Professional experience in production management, stage management, crew management, technical direction or combination thereof

    2. Perform orientation for seasonal staff members, including review of employee handbook and guidelines
    3. Assign and assist with crew housing, with the cooperation of Company Manager and/or Artistic General Manager

    5. Handle arrangement of meals for any rehearsals/performances that are needed
    6. Assist Production Manager in theater, including build and rehearsal times
    7. Assist Company Manager with company management duties for production personnel, such as, but not limited to, crew housing, workman’s compensation related injuries, and company meals
    8. Schedule and coordinate meetings, both institutional and project based.
    9. Attend all design, production, staff, and other meetings as requested; take and distribute meeting notes.
    10. Create seasonal staff contact sheets, schedules, calendars, and other relevant paperwork, and distribute appropriately.

The Stage Management Intern works closely with the Deck Supervisor and Stage Management to run a safe and fluid backstage environment.

STAGES St. Louis seeks a Directing Intern for the 2025 Season musical production of MURDER FOR TWO and a Director/ Choreographer Intern for its musical production of BEAUTIFUL.

The Interns will work directly with the Director and Choreographer (if applicable) of the mainstage shows as well as the Artistic Director. Duties for the Directing Intern would include attending rehearsals, taking notes, and generally assisting the Director with the realization of their vision in the rehearsal and tech process as needed. The Director/ Choreographer Intern would also be expected to learn and assist the choreographer with dance as needed. The successful applicant is detailed-oriented, self-motivated, works well in a fast-paced environment, and responds with flexibility to the needs of various collaborators and to rapidly changing circumstances. Applicants should demonstrate strong organizational skills, proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, and a strong sense of humor and maturity. This position must have a valid driver’s license, a reliable personal transportation, provide their own local St. Louis housing, and a flexible schedule. Contract dates are May 13 – May 30 (MURDER FOR TWO ), and August 26 – Sept 19 (BEAUTIFUL). Flexibility with schedule can be discussed if overlapping with the school year.

Compensation:

Compensation is $13.75/hour. Due to a Missouri State Statue exemption, seasonal employees are paid overtime at 1 ½ times their rate after 48 hours worked in a given work week. All summer positions are paid biweekly on Fridays.

Interns also receive two complimentary tickets to each production they work on dependent upon availability.

Company Management Internship

STAGES St. Louis seeks a Company Management Intern for the 2025 Season.

The Company Management Intern works directly with the Company Manager/Artistic Assistant and Artistic General Manager to provide the highest level of hospitality to all STAGES’ artists. The company management internship provides the opportunity to be involved in the day-to-day details of the Acting and Production Company’s professional lives. This includes activities relating to travel, housing, special needs, health and well-being, hospitality, and working to integrate artists into STAGES and the surrounding community. Music Internship

STAGES St. Louis seeks Music Intern for the 2025 Season production BEAUTIFUL: A CAROLE KING STORY.

The Intern will work directly with the Music Director, Director and Musicians of each production.  Duties for the Music Intern will include attending rehearsals, taking notes, and generally assisting the Music Director.  The Intern will also have the chance to play accompaniment to limited amount of rehearsals when needed.

The successful applicant is detailed-oriented, self-motivated, works well in a fast-paced environment, and responds with flexibility to the needs of various collaborators and to rapidly changing circumstances.  Applicants should be able to read music and play the piano and have experience accompanying singers.  BEAUTIFUL requires knowledge of R&B and early rock.  Experience with MainStage is a plus.

This position must have a valid driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, local housing in St. Louis, and a flexible schedule. Contract dates are August 26 – September 19, 2025.   Flexibility with schedule can be discussed if overlapping with the school year.

The Scenic Charge Supervisor works closely with the Technical Director and Scenic Designers to direct the Paint Shop.

    1. Develop and demonstrate painting and texture techniques to recreate the scenic designer’s representation for all scenic units, drops, specialized prop pieces, and the theatre space as required
    2. Supervise and create daily work schedule of the paint staff in shop
    3. In concert with the Technical Director, direct work flow of scenic pieces as per construction schedule
    4. Perform any repairs or alterations
    5. Supervise and direct (sometimes hands-on) theatre load in
